US lime slurry trials a success

Applied Specialties lime slurry made from AS 8750 recently replaced commercially available lime slurry at a Louisiana Refinery. The incumbent slurry had been used for a number of years to lime soften Mississippi River water that is used within the refinery. The incumbent product like all conventional lime slurries suffers from scaling and fouling which requires frequent cleaning of piping and associated equipment by plant maintenance.

After using the new slurry for 8 weeks, the refinery’s technical and operating teams evaluated the economic and maintenance benefits.

During the trial period, the new slurry cleaned the old deposits from the lime slurry storage and feed system. The new slurry also resulted in significant reductions in slurry use. The previous supplier’s lime slurry usage was 3 truckloads per week, this was reduced to 2 truckloads per week or a 33% decrease when using the slurry made from AS 8750.

As a result of the significant cost savings and reduced maintenance issues, the refinery management has elected to make the switch to Applied Specialties’ Performance Slurry permanent.
